Artist Statement by Hoh Kim

저에게 예술은 인생의 후반부(the second half of life)를 향한 여정입니다. 정체성이라는 그릇(container) 안에서 의미를 찾는 탐구입니다. 삶의 굴곡, 상처, 그리고 복잡성을 담고 있는 나무라는 재료를 사용하여 저는 조형적인 형태와 자화상을 만듭니다. 나무의 결, 옹이, 그리고 질감은 조각 과정을 통해 마법처럼 드러나는 숨겨진 진실을 이야기합니다. 저는 관람객들이 제 작품을 감상하면서 자신의 여정을 되돌아보고 스스로에게 질문을 던져보기를 권합니다. 당신의 삶에서 진정으로 원하는 것은 무엇입니까? 

My art is a journey towards the 'second half of life' – a quest for meaning within the 'container of identity'.  Working with wood, a material that embodies life's falls, scars, and complexities, I craft sculptural forms and evocative self-portraits.  The grain, knots, and textures speak of hidden truths, magically revealed through the carving process. I invite viewers to contemplate their own journey as they engage with my work, asking: What do you truly want in your life?
